News over the weekend on the West Bromwich Albion rumour mill suggested that we were keeping our eye on Brentford striker Neal Maupay and would make an attempt for the free scoring 22-year-old should he not seal a summer transfer to the Premier League before deadline day.

West Brom Reportedly Tracking 28 Goal Championship Striker

It was certainly an interesting report and I guess leant heavily on new head coach Slaven Bilic and the career he’s had, as potentially being a pull for the 28 goal Frenchman. Nobody though would’ve taken it that seriously given the Premier League interest in him and the differences in financial clout – at best this was simply one we’d look at for deadline day as a punt if nothing else had happened by then.

With the current feeling in the fanbase, the news did spark quite an angry and confused reaction from some given how unlikely it was that this rumour would ever come off, but given the disappointments so far this summer with departures, a signing like Maupay would certainly be the right kind of message to send.
