As West Brom additions of the ‘On This Day’ tweets go, the one that the Baggies tweeted out yesterday was right up there, as the official WBA account tweeted a clip from the club’s famous 5-1 FA Cup quarter-final away win over Bristol Rovers from back in 2008.

That 2007/08 season was a massively enjoyable one for the fans, not only did they get to the FA Cup semi-finals and enjoy a day out at Wembley, but they won the Championship to gain promotion to the Premier League, although the furthest they’ve gone in the FA Cup since then is the quarter-finals in 2014/15.
That win over Bristol Rovers ensured that the Baggies had a day out at Wembley and it’s one that the fans won’t be forgetting for a very long time, and for good reason. It also helps that they did it in such fashion, smashing Rovers 5-1 on their own turf thanks to a wonderful hat-trick from Ishmael Miller (BBC).
You can read the Baggies’ thoughts on the famous away win here:
Watched this in Germany whilst serving out there and spent the next day on the phone getting my ticket for the semi final drove all the way over for it and drove back well worth the journey!!!! #wba

Last season we actually made an effort in the cup. Great day out at Wembley wrecked by a handball.

That’s when the club and management actually cared about the fans wanting a trip to Wembley. Feel for the young fans now who’ll probably never see there team in a cup final ever. No ambition now. Shameful.

The Baggies have got loads of time for this throwback, and will just hope they’ll have similar FA Cup memories made in the seasons to come.
