Today`s Guardian states that West Bromwich Albion have made a firm enquiry into the availability of England & Tottenham goal keeper Paul Robinson.

In the Sport Section of the newspaper today, and also on the website, the journalist Stuart James has said that WBA are so far the only club to have enquired about the goal keeper who found himself out of favour at White Hart Lane with the arrival of Jaunde Ramos last season.

Much is known about Robinson, whether it be for his 70-yard goal against Watford in 2006-07, or the recent tarnish to his reputation through a string of erratic performances. Often placed under pressure from what was, until recently, a very shaky Spurs backline, he made a few high profile errors and lost his place in both the Tottenham and England sides. Perhaps his most famous calamity was the goal he let in from a simple back-pass from Gary Neville in the Euro 08 qualifying match in Croatia.

With the Baggies` midlands rivals Aston Villa also rumoured to be keen on the stopper, the European prospects on offer at Villa Park means that this would surely be the more tempting option.

West Brom are in need of a goalie, and this has been highlighted by fans in a recent poll on this website – notwithstanding his recent heroics upon his recall to the Republic of Ireland set-up, Dean Kiely is 38 and certainly not one for the future, or possibly the present, and giant Czech loanee Michal Daněk is yet to make a first team appearance in the blue & white stripes.

The prospect of two Paul Robinsons at the club is one I would welcome, not least for the commentary that would doubtless ensue as Mowbray`s men knock it around at the back. Do you think that the acquisition of Robinson would be a good thing? What do you think about the other players that we have signed or have been touted? Have your say in the Forums.
