WBA wizard compared to Modric and Payet might just be the best player in the division – Opinion

|

It’s rare a player of such quality comes to a team and not only asserts himself as the best in the squad but arguably the best in the entire league, yet Matheus Pereira is proving just that at West Brom.

The Brazilian winger this weekend put on a display for the ages, with stats from WhoScored showing that Pereira scored a perfect 10 out of 10 as Pereira scored one, assisted three and managed an astonishing eight key passes in the Baggies 5-1 win against Swansea City.

Is Matheus Pereira the best player in the Championship?

Yes

No

Pereira’s performance is a clear candidate for one of the most dominate of the season, with Slaven Bilic saying to the press post-game via Sports Mole that the attacker reminds him of both Luka Modric and Dimitri Payet, with the West Brom boss saying: “Is it Modric when he was a kid in Croatia? Is it (Manuel) Lanzini? Is it Payet? But it’s not enough. There’s always room for good players if they work hard.”

Indeed, the Sporting Lisbon loanee can make a strong case for being the best player in the Championship, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that Pereira has the most goal contributions out of any name in the division with 19 with five goals and 14 assists after just 18 appearances.

West Brom sits top of the Championship table for another matchday based on Pereira’s stunning outing against the Swans on Sunday, and it would be an understatement to say that without the Brazilian youngster, the Baggies wouldn’t be in the position they are now.

The Albion’s promotion charge is well and truly on, and Pereira is the driving force behind this surge from Bilic’s side to reclaim a spot in the English top-flight by clearly asserting himself as the best player in the Championship this season.
