Opinion: When the window opens West Brom simply have to prioritise key figure’s signing

|

This season has been a very good one for West Bromwich Albion fans. The Baggies clearly love the way that their team is playing and the togetherness that has been on show from the squad, and the way that Callum Robinson has integrated after his January loan is certainly impressive.

When the Irishman made the move from the Blades to the Baggies in January on a half-season loan (BBC), and he’s already shown exactly what he can do for his new club, as the West Midlands side have benefited from bringing him in, as Robinson has two goals and assists in eight Championship games this season (Transfermarkt).

However, the problem with the loan for Robinson is that it is only a loan, and in the summer the 25-year-old will return to his parent club at Bramall Lane and be forced to fight for a place in a Premier League squad. The same could be the case if he signs permanently at The Hawthorns, though, and he faces a greater chance of getting in with the West Midlands side than in Sheffield.

In 16 Premier League games this season for Sheffield United, Robinson played 90 minutes just twice, yet in only eight games for the Baggies, he’s already achieved the same figure (Transfermarkt), and his numbers for West Brom are looking very promising already.

As well as the 25-year-old’s three-goal contributions in the Championship he’s been averaging 3.8 shots, 1.8 key passes and 1 dribble per match (WhoScored), and as long as he continues playing the way he is then the Baggies will continue calling for him to be signed permanently.

Do you want to sign Callum Robinson permanently?

Yes

No

The loanee has a Transfermarkt valuation of just £6.3m, and whilst that might not seem like much, if the Baggies are to sign him permanently then it could cost more than that given his efforts this season and how in-demand he could be by the time the season finally ends.
