Well, the only thing that seemed to matter at West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday afternoon was confirmation of the sale of 22 goal striker Jay Rodriguez back to his former club Burnley.
West Brom Secure Great Rodriguez Deal With Burnley…Oh Wait A Minute
Having come through their youth Academy ranks making over 100 appearances for the Turf Moor outfit, he moved on to Southampton for £6million in 2012 but having been heavily hit with injuries on the South Coast just as his star was really on the rise, we snapped him up for a reported £12million in the summer of 2017 and he went on to make 84 starting appearances for us, with a further six showings from the substitutes bench.
He departs having found the back of the net 33 times across all competitions.
With news of the contract amendment last summer when a verbal promise should’ve sufficed, Sporting Director Luke Dowling was confident he’d be with us at the start of the 2019/20 campaign and just over a week later that all changed as we announced his sale for £5million now and another £5million in 12 months time.
His full departure message is contained within the article above and plenty of fans appreciated his words, if not the deal.

Genuine respectful honest message from footballer to fans. Very rare in this day and age. Others who have departed in recent times should take note

Wish him all the best. The ultimate professional. I’ll never forget his goal of the season last year. Last minute, 2-1 down at home to villa. J rod from 40 yards. Leaving the keeper with no chance. Legend. #wba
