West Brom manager Slaven Bilic says that he may not look to alter his playing squad dramatically in the summer transfer window, after the Baggies secured their promotion to the Premier League.
Fulham’s draw with Wigan and Brentford’s defeat to Luton mean that West Brom’s 2-2 draw with QPR at The Hawthrons was enough to secure their return to the Premier League after two years in English football’s second-tier, and it seems Bilic is already being made to think about his plans for the coming campaign.
Speaking about the prospect of making changing to his side ahead of that return to the top-flight, Bilic was quoted by The Birmingham Mail as telling Sky Sports: “We will see, we are a good team. We have a good example with Sheffield United, Norwich and Villa.
“Maybe three different approaches that shows you you have to change but you don’t have to change a lot.”
Is the right approach for Bilic to take?YesNo |
Indeed, it seems Bilic believes that the majority of his squad have earnt the right to play in the Premier League next season, with the Croatian adding: “The majority of the guys we have counted on here are going to play in the Premier League because they deserve it.
“I really believe that some of them will be more suited to the Premier League.”
Bilic certainly has a point here.
There are plenty of members of this squad who have done so much to help get the club back into the Premier League, and they deserved to be recognised with the chance to prove themselves in the top-flight.
However, that does not mean there are not things that Bilic will need to sort out before that return to the Premier League – finding a reliable goalscorer surely being a priority – and that may mean changes need to be made in order to keep them in the top-flight beyond this season, otherwise all of these efforts will have been for nothing.
