Report: West Brom man close to temporary Hawthorns exit

|

Lincoln City are close to completing the loan signing of West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed.

A graduate of West Brom’s academy, Palmer has yet to make a senior appearance for the Baggies, instead enjoying a number of spells out on loan elsewhere.

The most recent of those loan spells saw the 24-year-old on loan at Plymouth, where he played all 37 of the club’s league games prior to the cancellation of the season, helping them win automatic promotion to League One in the process.

Now it looks as though Palmer is about to get his own chance in English football’s third-tier, albeit in a different location, with Nixon’s latest update stating that the goalkeeper is close to joining Lincoln on a temporary basis.

This does look as though it could be a good deal for all concerned.

For West Brom, it allows them to create some more space and funds in their budget to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League next season, while giving one of their players the chance to develop his own abilities elsewhere.

At 24-years-old, Palmer is at the stage of his career where he is going to want to be playing as much regular first-team football as possible, and it seems this move will give him the opportunity to do just that.

Indeed, with three years remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns, there is still plenty of time for him to make an impact in the Baggies’ senior side, and this may be just the opportunity he needs to prove that he is capable of making that step up at some point in the next few years.
