Report: West Brom make majors decisions on future of senior trio

|

West Brom are willing to sell first-team players Kieran Gibbs, Kenneth Zohore and Oliver Burke during the summer transfer window as they prepare for their return to the Premier League, a report from The Daily Telegraph has claimed.

After two years away from the top-flight, the Baggies are looking to strengthen their squad following their automatic promotion from the Championship last season, and that could mean moving on several of their current squad.

According to the latest reports, Gibbs, Zohore and Burke are three who are in line to be moved on in order make space and generate funds for those new recruits.

Gibbs, who played just 14 league games during an injury-hit 2019/20 campaign, is entering the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns, and it is thought he could be moved on with the club targeting another left-back in the shape of Wigan’s Antonee Robinson.

Having joined the Baggies for a reported £15million back in the summer of 2017, Burke has made just a handful of appearances for the club, spending the last year-and-a-half out on loan first with Celtic and then with Alaves.

Zohore meanwhile, only joined West Brom from Cardiff last summer, and has scored five goals in 20 appearances during his time at The Hawthorns so far.

Are West Brom right to try and sell Gibbs, Burke and Zohore?

Yes

No

As a result, it does seem to make sense to move these three players on over the next few months.

Neither Zohore nor Burke have really settled at The Hawthorns yet, meaning it is hard to see them really making an impact in the top-flight next season.

By contrast to that, the concern over Gibbs is likely to centre more around the 31-year-old’s fitness, and the fact that this may be the last chance to receive a fee for him given his contract situation.

Consequentially, while it may be sad to see him leave, it still seems like a sensible decision to make, particularly if the focus is one strengthening that left-back spot with someone such as Robinson.
