Report: West Brom keen to sign 21-y/o midfielder

|

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic is interested in signing Hull City midfielder Leonardo Da Silva Lopes, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Lopes only joined Hull from Wigan last summer, and went onto make 42 appearances in all competitions during an impressive debut season at the KCOM Stadium, which included two goals and three assists.

But despite some impressive performances from the 21-year-old, Hull were relegated following a dismal second-half of the campaign, which saw them win just one of their last 20 league games to finish bottom of the Championship table.

That is something that West Brom could now look to take advantage of, with the latest reports claiming that the Baggies are lining up a move to sign Da Silva Lopes, as they look to strengthen their squad following their promotion to the Premier League.

Lopes, who has been capped at Under-20 level by Portugal, has two years remaining on his current contract with Hull, securing his future at the KCOM Stadium until the end of the 2021/22 season.

Would Da Silva Lopes be a good signing for West Brom?

Yes

No

Even so, this is a deal that you can see happening should the Baggies want it to.

The prospect of playing in the Premier League will surely be more appealing to Lopes than a campaign in League One, with the windfall West Brom will have received from their promotion meaning this is a deal they ought to be able to afford as well.

Indeed, it wasn’t easy to impress in such a poor Hull side last season, but Lopes was able to do that better than most who play in it, and you feel that suggests that he could be a reliable squad player for the Baggies at least in the Premier League.
