Report: West Brom in talks with Premier League rivals over signing of 28-y/o defender

West Brom have held talks with Brighton over the potential signing of centre back Shane Duffy, a report from The Daily Mail has claimed.

Having been a key player for the Seagulls just a few years ago, Duffy has found his influence on the side reduced recently, with the Republic of Ireland international starting just 12 Premier League games in the season just gone.

Now it seems as though Duffy could be set for a move elsewhere this summer, with the latest reports claiming that the Baggies have already held talks with Brighton about the possibility of bringing the 28-year-old to The Hawthorns, as Slaven Bilic looks to strengthen his side’s defence ahead of their return to the top-flight.

Along with West Brom, it is also thought that West Ham are monitoring Duffy’s situation, although Hammers boss David Moyes is said to be restricted by a tight budget at the London Stadium.

As things stand, there are three years remaining on Duffy’s contract with Brighton, securing his future at The AMEX Stadium until the end of the 2022/23 season, and putting the club in a strong position to negotiate any offers that come in for him.

This feels like it could be a big signing for West Brom if they can pull it off.

It does look as though they could do to add an extra element of solidity to their backline ahead of their return to the top-flight, and Duffy’s proven ability and experience in the would surely help them to do that.

Having seemingly fallen down the pecking order at Brighton recently as well, you feel that Duffy himself could be open to this move as well, to give him the chance to enjoy regular Premier League football once more.
