Report: West Brom find out how much they will receive for 2020 departure

|

Crystal Palace will have to pay West Brom £6million for the signing of defender Nathan Ferguson, a report from Birmingham Live has claimed.

The full-back joined Palace on a three-year deal earlier this summer, after the expiration of his contract at The Hawthorns, although the Baggies are due still to receive a fee for Ferguson.

Due to the fact that the defender is still only 19-years-old, and that he was joining another English club, West Brom are entitled to a compensation fee for Ferguson.

According to the latest reports, that fee, which will be decided by a tribunal after the two clubs were unable to agree a price, could be somewhere in the region of £6million, based on the fact that Ferguson had been at West Brom for ten years prior to his move, as well as the number of appearances and goals he contributed during his time with Albion.

Having made his debut in a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, on the opening day of the 2019/20 campaign, Ferguson went on to make a total of 21 appearances for the Baggies, scoring once in a 2-0 win over QPR.

This would certainly be a useful windfall for West Brom if they can get it.

Having secured promotion to the Premier League for next season, you do feel as though they will need to strengthen several areas of their squad if they are to be competitive on their return to the top-flight.

This fee they look set to receive for Ferguson would certainly help them to do that in the transfer market, and it will no doubt be interesting to see how things play out when the Baggies go head to head with Palace on the pitch in the coming campaign.
