Report: West Brom colossus “very happy” with season-changing events after rough start to 2020

|

Semi Ajayi has praised the mentality and performances of the West Brom squad after a successful February saw the Baggies return to form in the Championship.

Speaking to The Express and Star, the Nigerian international waxed lyrical about the club’s change in attitude after a brilliant month that boosted West Brom’s chances of automatic promotion to the Premier League as the Baggies picked up a string of impressive results in the league.

Although a shock loss to Wigan Athletic saw the month end on a sour note, West Brom impressed greatly in February, with the Albion picking up 16 points from a possible 21 which allowed Slaven Bilic’s side to gain some much-needed ground on the sides in the Championship play-off spots, and for Ajayi, the period was a big boost to the club’s confidence heading into the remaining nine games of the season.

The 26-year-old colossus said when asked about how important February’s results were: “February, on the whole, was very good. If you look at the performances as well as the results, I think we can be very happy looking back on the month. We would have loved to beat Wigan to round off the month but that doesn’t change the results we have managed to pick up previously.”

With nine games of the season left to play following yesterday’s fixture against Swansea City, the Baggies are heading into the crux of the Championship season where every point between now and May will be crucial if they are to claim a top-two spot in the league standings.

West Brom have done well to fight their way into this position at the most important part of the season, and after a sensational February, Ajayi and the rest of the Albion will be eager to carry their form from last month into March and the remaining weeks of the Championship campaign.
