Report: Key WBA man drops “positive” and “promising” injury update for 59-capped international

|

Slaven Bilic has given a promising injury update on defender Ahmed Hegazi, who was taken off last weekend in West Brom’s 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic.

The West Brom boss revealed to The Birmingham Mail that the 59-capped Egyptian international had a scan for a suspected hamstring injury, with the results showing that minimal damage was done to Hegazi in what has been an injury-hit season for the centre-back.

As stats from WhoScored show, the 29-year-old West Brom star has only managed 682 minutes of league football this season, yet it is likely that Hegazi will return to the pitch sooner than later, with Bilic delivering a promising injury update on the former Al Ahly defender.

Will this slump in form be addressed against Swansea?

Yes

No

The Croatian manager said on the Egyptian’s injury: “Hegazi did his scan, it’s not bad. He should be back in a minimum of two weeks. It’s not cramp, but it’s a very little one. It’s a big boost for us because he came back in the team but hopefully, it should be only a couple of weeks,” with Bilic later saying: “On paper, it looks very positive and very promising.”

With 10 games of the Championship season left to play, Bilic will be hoping he can have a fully-fit squad heading into the run-in in what has been a dramatic and topsy-turvy campaign for West Brom, and Hegazi returning to full fitness soon could play a big role in the Baggies securing automatic promotion to the Premier League.

West Brom have been one of the top sides in the league this season, but their defence has been suspect with the Albion only keeping nine clean sheets as stats from Transfermarkt show, and with Hegazi being one of the club’s most experienced players overall, the 29-year-old defender will be a huge boost to the squad should he return in time for the remaining games of the Championship.
