Report: West Brom closing in on deal for PL icon

|

West Brom are holding talks with former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic over a potential move to The Hawthorns, a report from The Telegraph has claimed.

Ivanovic won three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup, a Champions League and a Europa League during a nine-year spell at Stamford Bridge between 2008 and 2017, before leaving to join Zenit St Petersburg.

The 36-year-old is now a free agent after leaving the Russian giants this summer, and it seems as though a return to the Premier League is now on the cards for the right-back.

According to the latest reports, the Baggies are now holding talks with Ivanovic over a potential move to The Hawthorns for the coming campaign, as Slaven Bilic looks to strengthen his squad for their return to the Premier League.

It is thought that the club have offered Ivanovic a one-year contract, and that a deal could be done within the next 48 hours.

As a result, there is a possibility he could be available for the opening day clash with Leicester at The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.

Given the profile Ivanovic has in England, and the experience he possesses, you feel this has the potential to be a decent deal for West Brom as they look to be competitive in the top-flight next season.

However, this is not likely to be a cheap deal given the size of the clubs Ivanovic has been at in the past, and at 36-year-old, you do have to wonder slightly whether he can still keep up with the pace of English football’s top-flight, meaning this deal is certainly not without its risks for the Baggies.
