Report: West Brom battling Premier League rivals for striker signing

|

West Brom and Leicester are set to compete for the signing of Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi, according to a report from Turkish newspaper Turkiye, via Sport Witness.

Muriqi enjoyed an impressive campaign for Fenerbahce last season, scoring 15 goals in 32 league appearances for the club, and it seems he could now be on the move this summer.

According to the latest reports, Fenerbahce are looking to sell Muriqi this summer, in order to fund their own summer recruitment programme.

That is something that appears to have caught the attention of both West Brom and Leicester, and Fenerbahce are said to be hoping for a bidding war between the two sides to push Muriqi’s price tag as high as possible, and it is thought that they want a minimum €15million from any potential transfer.

Leicester reportedly believe the 26-year-old could be a long-term replacement for Jamie Vardy, while the Baggies are said to be keen to add to their attacking ranks ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Would Muriqi be a good signing?

Yes

No

This would certainly be a useful signing for West Brom if they are able to pull it off.

It does seem as they are intent on adding a goalscorer to their side in the next few weeks, which makes sense when you consider the returns of the likes of Charlie Austin, Hal Robson-Kanu and Kenneth Zohore in the season just gone.

Muriqi’s record certainly suggests that he would be capable of doing just that, although it may not be easy for West Brom to secure this signing.

Leicester’s fifth-placed Premier League finish this season means they will be able to offer the striker European football next year – albeit in the Europa League – while the price tag Fenerbahce are aiming for will not be cheap for the Baggies, who cannot afford to overspend on one area of their squad at the expense of others.
