Report: West Brom leading major European clubs in race for £5.85million-rated defender

|

West Brom are in pole position to secure the signing of Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida during the summer transfer window, a report from Turkish outlet Sabah has claimed.

The 31-year-old Croatian international – who is valued at £5.85million by Transfermarkt – made 31 league appearances for Besiktas last season, and has two years remaining on his contract with the Turkish giants.

According to the latest reports however, Vida could be set to leave Besiktas in the coming weeks, with the club apparently keen to sell the defender in order to raise some much-needed funds.

That is something that appears to have caught the attention of a number of clubs across Europe, with West Brom said to have been joined by Roma, Inter, Fiorentina, Lyon, Monaco and Sevilla in taking an interest in the centre back.

But despite those links elsewhere, it is thought that the Baggies are currently at the front of the queue to secure the services of Vida, a move which would see the defender link up with his fellow Croatian Slaven Bilic.

Would you be happy with Vida at West Brom?

Yes

No

This could certainly be a decent signing for West Brom.

Vida’s experience and proven ability at top-flight level would surely make him a useful asset to have as the Baggies look to re-establish themselves in the Premier League next season.

Indeed, when you look at the level of interest there is in Vida, it certainly appears as though he is still more than capable of making an important contribution, which could mean this will be something of a statement of intent from the Baggies if they are able to pull this off.
