Report: West Brom battling Leeds to sign 33-cap international valued at £6.3million

|

West Brom have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Gent defender Milad Mohammadi, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Like Leeds, the Baggies are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League next season, and  it seems Mohammadi has emerged as a potential target for both clubs.

According to the latest reports, West Brom boss Slaven Bilic is keen to bring the 26-year-old to The Hawthorns to strengthen the left-hand side of his defence, with Kieran Gibbs now said to be surplus to requirements in the Midlands.

Mohammadi has reportedly been identified as a potential replacement for the former Arsenal man, and it is thought that it will cost around £6.3million to secure the services of the defender.

Having only joined Gent from Russian outfit Akhmat Grozny last summer, Mohammadi has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Belgian giants, and has also been capped 33 times at senior international level by Iran, who he represented at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

As things stand, there are still two years remaining on Mohammadi’s contract at Gent, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.

This could be a useful addition for West Brom if they are able to secure the deal.

With Gibbs seemingly on his way out of the club this summer, a new addition at left-back could well be needed by the Baggies, and Mohammadi is a player who has the experience required to fill that role.

However, you do have to wonder slightly about how he would cope with a move to the Premier League, given the added pressure of playing in a league of that size, meaning the club may have to be careful not to pay over the odds in this particular transfer race.
