Report: West Brom handed boost in pursuit of 24-goal striker

|

West Brom have been given a lift in their chances of signing Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney this summer, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Toney enjoyed another outstanding campaign in League One with Posh last season, scoring 24 goals in 32 league appearances prior to the abandonment of that campaign, something which has led to plenty of speculation around the striker’s future this summer.

Now it seems as though West Brom have been handed something of an opportunity in the battle to sign the prolific 24-year-old.

According to the latest reports, the Baggies are one of a number of clubs who are interested in signing the striker, with beaten play-off finalists Brentford and Scottish champions Celtic among those said to have bid for the striker.

However, it is thought that Toney is keen to move to the Premier League this summer, something which looks as though it could give West Brom an advantage in any potential negotiations for the forward.

Slaven Bilic’s side are not however, the only club who could benefit from that stance of Toney’s, with fellow promoted side Fulham also thought to be interested in giving Toney the chance to play in the Premier League next season.

As things stand, there is a belief that Peterborough are hopeful of receiving a fee of around £9-10million for the striker in the coming months.

This would feel like a big signing for West Brom if they are able to pull it off.

There is no doubt they need a goalscorer ahead of their return to the top-flight, and Toney’s record for Peterborough suggests he is exactly that, and it would be interesting to see if he can make the step up to the Premier League.

Indeed, the level of interest there is in Toney implies there is a belief within the football world that he could be capable of making that step up, meaning this would be a big statement of intent from the Baggies if they can make it happen.
