Report: West Brom battling Champions League club to sign 15-goal striker

|

West Brom have made a move to sign Vedat Muriqi from Fenerbahce, as they look to beat Lazio to the signing of the striker, Turkish journalist Ertan Suzgun has claimed.

Lazio, whose fourth-place finish in Serie A last season has secured them a Champions League spot for the coming campaign, have been linked with a move for Muriqi in recent weeks, although it seems the Baggies are also keen on signing the Kosovan.

According to Suzgun’s update, West Brom have now made an offer to Fenerbahce for the signing of Muriqi, as they look to beat Lazio in the battle for the striker’s signature, with Bilic’s past experiencing in Turkey managing Besiktas seemingly helping to push these rumours along.

Having signed from fellow Turkish side Rizespor last summer, Muriqi enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with Fenerbahce last season, scoring 15 goals in 32 league appearances.

As things stand, there are three years remaining on his contract with Fenerbahce, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2022/23 season, putting the club in a strong position to negotiate any offers that come in for the forward.

This would certainly be a useful deal for West Brom if they are able to pull it off.

There appears to be little doubt that the Baggies will need to add a striker to their ranks if they are to be competitive in the Premier League next season, following underwhelming returns from the likes of Charlie Austin, Hal Robson-Kanu and Kenneth Zohore in the Championship last year.

Muriqi’s returns in the Turkish top-flight, if he can transfer them to the Premier League, would unquestionably help them to fill that role, and if they are to beat Lazio to this signing, then you feel it would be a significant statement of intent from the Premier League new boys.
