Report: European club interested in signing West Brom midfielder

|

Trabzonspor are interested in signing West Brom midfielder Oliver Burke, a report from Turkish newspaper Fanatik has claimed.

Burke joined West Brom from RB Leipzig for a reported £15million back in the summer of 2017, but things have never really gone to plan since then.

The midfielder has made just 24 appearances in all competitions for the Baggies, and has spent the majority of the last season and a half out on loan with Celtic and Alaves.

It was recently reported that Burke is one of several players the club could look to sell this summer following their promotion to the Premier League, and it seems a potential new destination has now opened for the 23-year-old.

According to the latest reports, Trabzonspor are keen to complete the permanent signing of Burke this summer, and the club will push for a move if the asking price they are quoted for the midfielder is one they feel to be reasonable.

The Turkish club recently appointed former Chelsea midfielder Eddie Newton as their permanent manager, after he guided Trabzonspor to victory in the Turkish Cup while in interim charge.

You feel this would be a good move for West Brom to facilitate.

It is hard to see them recouping anything like the full amount they paid Leipzig for Burke, given the way things have played out since then, although these reports do suggest Trabzonspor are willing to pay some sort of fee for the midfielder.

That would help the Baggies clear part of their wage bill and raise funds for what could be an important summer of recruitment ahead of their return to the top-flight, while also giving Burke the chance to put his disappointing spell at The Hawthorns behind him with a permanent move away,
