Report: West Brom will attempt to sign 24-y/o midfielder on permanent basis

|

West Brom are lining up a permanent offer for Benfica midfielder Filip Krovinovic, a report from a print edition of Portuguese newspaper A Bola – via Sport Witness – has claimed.

Krovinovic spent last season on loan at The Hawthorns, scoring three goals in 40 league appearances to help the Baggies win automatic promotion to the Premier League, and it seems the club are now keen to bring him back to the Midlands one way or another.

It had recently been reported that West Brom are in talks with Benfica about the possibility of loaning Krovinovic back again for next season, with the option to buy the 24-year-old if they are not relegated from English football’s top-flight in the coming campaign.

However, that may not necessarily be the case, with these latest reports from Portugal claiming that West Brom will look to sign Krovinovic outright this summer.

If the Baggies are to make this move permanent in the next few weeks, then it is thought that it will cost them somewhere in the region of €10million to do so, the same price they look set to pay if they are to make Matheus Pereira’s loan move from Sporting Lisbon permanent as well.

As things stand, there are two years remaining on Krovinovic’s contract with Benfica, securing his future at the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.

This is certainly an interesting one for the Baggies to consider.

It does seem pretty clear that they want Krovinovic back at the club next season one way or another, and you can see why to an extent, given his contributions in the season just gone.

However, it could be argued that €10million is somewhat expensive in the current environment, particularly when it is only costing them that much to get Pereira, and they will have to be careful not to price themselves out of strengthening other areas of the squad here.
