Report: La Liga side ‘trying to sign’ 23 y/o West Brom man, director ‘explores the possibility’

According to AS, Deportivo Alaves are ‘trying to sign’ Oliver Burke permanently, as sports director Sergio Fernández ‘explores the possibility’ of working out a deal with West Bromwich Albion.

The 23-year-old has spent the season on loan at Alaves and appears to have made a good impression, but Albion didn’t include a buying option and still have Burke contracted for two more years, so it remains to be seen if he’ll be sold.

Who has scored the most Championship goals?

Burke joined West Brom in 2017 and has gone on to make 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring just one goal and making three assists. The Scotland international fell out of favour midway through his second season and joined Celtic (January 5, 2019 – June 30, 2019) on loan. He made 19 appearances, scored four goals and made three assists.

Upon his return to the Hawthorns, Burke was sent to Alaves (August 30, 2019 – present). He’s made 22 appearances in all competitions for Babazorros El Glorioso, scoring one goal and making one assist. As per WhoScored, Burke has amassed 791 minutes of La Liga football, however, so it’s somewhat surprising Alaves are so keen to sign him.

Burke has been out of favour for more than 18 months, but Albion paid more than £13m for the wide-man and will want to get the majority back through his sale, so it remains to be seen if Alaves can afford that – their record-signing is John Guidetti (£3.6m from Celta Vigo).
