Report: EFL chief reveals WBA prospect’s season is over with injury that ‘is not looking good’

|

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has revealed that he fears Sam Field’s season is over after being sent back to West Brom due to an ongoing knee injury.

Speaking to News Shopper, the Addicks boss said that the 21-year-old midfielder has been sent back to the Baggies after a frustrating season for Field that was plagued with injuries which ruled the youngster out for multiple months during his loan spell at Charlton, with the youngster only playing 422 minutes of football for the east London side as stats from WhoScored show.

The midfielder is the second player from West Brom to go out on loan to Charlton for the year only to return early due to injury, with Jonathan Leko also going to The Valley but having to be shipped back to the Baggies way before the end of the season after rupturing his ACL as reported by The Express and Star, and Bowyer thinks Field’s injury could be a bad one.

Is West Brom's academy one of the best in England?

Yes

No

When asked if Field’s season might have come to an end due to injury, the Addicks manager said: “Yeah, I do. Sam has gone back to West Brom. His knee is not looking good. That’s why we brought in a sixth loan because we knew it was touch and go.”

With Field hardly featuring for Charlton this season, the season could be viewed as a failure for the midfielder who has been unlucky with injuries this campaign, with his knee problems beginning as far back as October when the youngster was injured in a 2-1 defeat against Bristol City.

Yet being sent back to West Brom is seemingly the right decision for Field, who now has the time and the support of a quality medical team to recover his fitness for the summer where the prospect can assess his options and take the next logical step in his short but promising career.
