Report: WBA trickster remains ‘focused’ on club life despite persistent rumours from Euro giants

|

Matheus Pereira has admitted that he is only focussing on his life at West Brom despite links to Manchester United that continue to circulate.

Sitting down with Portuguese paper Record with quotes coming from Sport Witness, the 23-year-old Brazilian star waved off transfer talk from United with The Mirror reporting last year that the European giants were interested in the Championship star, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this January signing Sporting Lisbon teammate Bruno Fernandes.

Pereira has been one of the stars of the Championship this season with stats from WhoScored showing that the winger has already managed six goals and 12 appearances for the Baggies, yet despite speculation about a move to one of the biggest clubs in England, the Sporting loanee shrugged off the idea.

Is Matheus Pereira the best player in the Championship?

Yes

No

The Brazilian attacker said about rumours to Manchester United: “I’m focused on the moment that I’m living here. I don’t really like watching the news or reading newspapers. I’m always focused on training and games. It’s my goal. I try to stay as much as possible on the margins of everything that runs outside.”

With Pereira set to become a permanent West Brom player next month when the forward plays his 30th games for the club to activate a clause with Sporting as reported by The Express and Star, the Baggies would be highly keen to keep hold of their star attacker for next season even if Albion manage to miss out on promotion to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has become of the crowd’s most celebrated players this season and he looks like he is loving life at the Hawthorns, and even though interest from Manchester United would be hard to avoid, Pereira knows he is currently at a club where he could one day go on to become an icon at if he continues his form from this season into the future.
