Report Claims West Brom Have Joined The Race For £8m Rated Premier League Man

|

Over the weekend it was being claimed that West Bromwich Albion had now entered the race for the signature of Southampton striker Charlie Austin and we are apparently willing to shell out £8million to beat off competition from the likes of Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old has had a woeful time at St Mary’s Stadium in recent times and although he definitely seems over his earlier injury worries that dented his stock, he only found the net three times for them last year and quickly fell out of favour and their new manager made it pretty clear back in the January window that he was available for transfer and that has not changed this summer according to our friends at Vital Southampton.

On Saturday The Sun reported that it was now a four horse race for the striker and he was also being tracked by Crystal Palace and Fulham, but for me it would be a poor man’s replacement given the concerns we have over Jay Rodriguez and his contract situation this summer with the reported release clause being added.

If we could get Austin back to his best he would be a good signing, but it would be a risky move for me given his recent form and with finances tight I’m not sure we’d gamble the claimed £8million like that.
