Report claims West Brom are close to winning race to seal deal for Premier League player

|

West Brom are close to completing the loan signing of midfielder Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, a report from Sky Sports has claimed.

Gallagher enjoyed two impressive loan spells in the Championship last season, making a significant impact with both Charlton and Swansea, and it now looks as though he is going to get the chance for some regular game time in the Premier League in the coming campaign.

According to the latest reports, the Baggies are set secure the signing of Gallagher on a season-long loan deal, once the England Under 21 international has put pen to paper on a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

It is thought that Gallagher had been close to a loan move to Crystal Palace, but the Eagles have now taken Michy Batshuayi on loan from Chelsea, and Premier League rules prevent clubs from taking more than one player on loan from the same team.

West Brom’s local rivals Aston Villa and fellow promotion winners Leeds United have also been credited with an interest in a move for Gallagher during the course of the summer transfer window.

With that in mind, this does look as though it could be a good piece of business for West Brom to get this done.

Even in what was his first experience of senior football last season, Gallagher was hugely impressive in the Championship, and it does look as though he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

Indeed, his attacking influence could be important with the Baggies, who are still yet to sign a goalscorer this summer, and the fact they have beaten several other clubs to his services feels like a promising sign for the club going forward in the market, both this summer and beyond.
