Report: West Brom monitoring rarely seen 23-y/o PL striker

|

West Brom are interested for West Ham forward Xande Silva, a report from The Telegraph has claimed.

The Baggies are in the market for a striker this summer following their promotion to the Premier League, and it now seems as though a new potential candidate to fill that role has emerged.

According to the latest reports, the Baggies are taking an interest in Silva this summer, with the previously linked Huddersfield forward Karlan Grant and Watford duo Troy Deeney and Andre Gray also said to be on the radar.

Since joining West Ham from Vitoria Guimaraes in his native Portugal back in 2018, Silva has featured just twice for the Hammers’ senior side, and is yet to open his goalscoring account for the club.

He has however, had some more success at youth level, scoring ten goals in 11 Premier League 2 appearances for West Ham’s youth side.

Even so, it feels like it would be a huge risk for West Brom to take if they were to rely on Silva to lead the line for them this season.

Unlike the likes of Deeney and Grant, Silva has almost no experience of Premier League football, or any sort of goalscoring record that inspires confidence he can lead the line for the Baggies this season.

As a result, while Silva has shown promise for West Ham at youth level, it does seem hard to imagine the 23-year-old being the Baggies’ sole remaining attacking recruit this summer given what is at stake, and if he is, you have to fear for the club’s prospects of competing in the Premier League again next season.
