Report claims Champions League club are chasing West Brom man

|

Celtic are keen to beat Trabzonspor to the signing of West Brom winger Oliver Burke, a report from Turkish outlet Fotomac, as per Birmingham Live, has claimed.

Burke is facing an uncertain future at The Hawthorns this summer, with recent reports claiming that the Baggies will look to sell the midfielder in the coming months, as they aim to revamp their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

It has been claimed by some outlets that Trabzonspor are keen to sign the 23-year-old, although it now seems as though the Turkish Cup winners could be left disappointed in this particular transfer pursuit.

According to the latest reports from Turkey, Celtic are now competing with Trabzonspor in the race to sign Burke, and are hopeful of bringing the midfielder back to his native Scotland.

Burke of course spent the second half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan with the Scottish champions, making 19 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring four goals, before spending last season in Spain with Alaves.

Given the somewhat controversial manner in which Burke’s previous loan spell at Celtic ended, this does seem to something of a surprising link.

However, it could also be argued that Burke could have a sense of unfinished business with Celtic, which could tempt him to make the return to Glasgow.

Indeed, the opportunities to compete for silverware and in European football on a regular basis with Celtic could also help them tempt Burke to make the move back to Scotland, which may also be a more appealing move for Burke from a logistical perspective than making the switch to Turkey.
