Report: Championship club make approach for £8m player West Brom want to sell

|

Middlesbrough are keen on signing West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore this summer, a report from TeamTalk has claimed.

Zohore only joined the Baggies from Cardiff – where he was managed by now-Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock – last summer, but endured a difficult debut campaign at The Hawthorns, where he made just 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring only five goals.

It was reported earlier this summer that the striker is one of several players West Brom are looking to sell as the club look to overhaul their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

According to this latest update, that could now take Zohore to the Riverside Stadium, with Middlesbrough apparently keen on the striker, although it seems there may have to be some compromise if a deal is to be reached.

West Brom are said to be keen to recoup the majority of the £8million they paid Cardiff for Zohore last summer.

However, it is thought that that could be out of ‘Boro’s price range, with the Championship club instead said to have offered to take Zohore on loan, something which it has been suggested West Brom could facilitate.

As things stand, there are still three years remaining on Zohore’s contract with West Brom, so they are under no pressure to sell him this summer with regards to getting a fee, and a loan move would create space in the squad and wage budget this summer.

That being said, receiving a transfer fee for Zohore now would expand the Baggies’ horizons even further in terms of recruitment, and giving the importance of this window ahead of their return to the Premier League, you wonder if the club might look to off-load Zohore somewhere else permanently, if ‘Boro are unable to improve their offer.
