Opinion: Upcoming Monday night clash is West Brom’s biggest of the season, here’s why…

|

West Brom’s season has well and truly taken off. Slaven Bilic is doing a smashing job at The Hawthorns. His debut season at the club is going incredibly well and was it not for Leeds United, the Baggies would be well clear at the top of the table in the Championship.

However, Leeds United are up with the West Midlands side in the table, and the Whites are set to travel to QPR this weekend, taking on Mark Warburton’s side at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium whilst on Monday night the Baggies host Stoke City at The Hawthorns.

These two games could be crucial, and given the recent form of both sides, you’d make this game against the Potters in three days time one of Bilic’s most crucial games so far this season, as the Croatian gaffer could be set to open up a gap between his own side at Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds.

It makes it even more important when you take into account that the Baggies have struggled for form as of late. The Baggies have picked up just four points out of a possible 15 in their last five games, and they desperately need to improve that, with this game against Stoke a great chance to do so.

No disrespect to Michael O’Neil’s side, but the Potters are 21st in the table and have amassed less than half the amount of points as the Baggies, so getting a win here should be routine for Bilic. Should QPR continue their fine form and nick a point or three off Leeds, a win over Stoke could also open up a three or four-point gap over the Yorkshire side.

Will Slaven Bilic guide us back to the Premier League?

Yes

No

Bilic will be desperate for a win, as it could see the Baggies revert back to the old ways and get back on the winning trail, but it’s certainly easier said than done, although with the talent in this West Brom side, stringing a few wins together will surely happen sooner or later.
