Opinion: Bilic needs to rally the troops for West Brom’s next massive test after back-to-back defeats

|

West Bromwich Albion fans have not had the best of weeks so far. Whilst the only piece of good news that they can take from the last few days is the fact that Aston Villa fell to Manchester City at Wembley, the Baggies have suffered back-to-back defeats against Wigan and Newcastle.

Slaven Bilic’s side lost to a resurgent Wigan Athletic on Saturday at The Hawthorns by a narrow 1-0 scoreline, and when an opportunity for a quick reply was presented to them in the form of an FA Cup 5th round clash with a Newcastle side who had failed to score in three successive league games, they failed to take it and lost 3-2.

Now, though, the attention of Slaven Bilic, the players and the fans will all be turning towards the Baggies trip to Wales this weekend as they face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in a game that will not be easy, but one that they simply have to win.

Despite the strong season that the West Midlands side have had, they sit atop the Championship by the narrow margin of just a single point and are only clear of 3rd placed Fulham by six points (BBC), so getting all three points here will be absolutely crucial as getting some momentum built up will be key.

There is certainly a lot to be said for Swansea at the moment. The last time that the Baggies faced them it was at The Hawthorns and the home side romped their Welsh opponents 5-1, and now they need to do the double over Steve Cooper’s side to get back on track.

Will this slump in form be addressed against Swansea?

Yes

No

No game in the Championship is an easy one, but it is high time that this side got back to winning ways and this game does look like a good opportunity to do that, but Bilic will have to have his wits about him and make it happen one way or another, especially with Leeds and Fulham breathing down their necks.
