Koumas set to leave

Welsh international midfielder Jason Koumas looks set to leave The Hawthorns after clear the air talks between Bryan Robson and the midfielder failed to clear up their differences.

Albion boss Robson had arranged a meeting between the midfielder and his agent earlier this week with the hope of putting the last 12-months behind them and having Koumas in the squad for our Championship campaign. Talks did take place but the differences between Robson and Koumas could not be resolved and now it looks as though the midfielder is going to be sold.

Koumas now looks set to move from The Hawthorns but Cardiff may not be his destination. Albion`s Championship rivals have yet to meet Jeremy Peace`s £2 million valuation and face the risk of losing him to the Premiership.

Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock is an admirer of the Welsh international and they are one of the two premiership clubs interested in taking the midfielder permanently, Charlton boss Iain Dowie is also thought to admire the Welsh international and is thinking over a bid.

Koumas has spoken out in the past saying that he wanted to play in the Premier League as it is the only place to play. If Cardiff fail to come in with a suitable offer before Friday evening then Peace will not think twice about offering Koumas` services elsewhere.

Cardiff have had plenty of time to come up with the money for Koumas and the sale of Cameron Jerome for £4 million to Birmingham has annoyed Albion further as they know that the money is there, Cardiff just do not want to offer Albion the money.

If Koumas has no future at The Hawthorns then I would rather see him sold to a side in the Premier League than a rival in this division. With the way that Cardiff have drawn this transfer out I hope now that another side comes in for Koumas with a suitable offer and take him elsewhere.
