News that Albion had agreed a deal to take Basel goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbuhler to The Hawthorns are premature as it looks as though any potential move has hit a snag as the Swiss international is concerned that he wouldn`t be guaranteed a first-team place.

The Swiss keeper played every game for his country in Germany at the World Cup and went the entire tournament without conceding a goal. At 35-years-old he wants first-team football but Albion boss Bryan Robson is believed to want to bring in another keeper to fill the first-team slot with Zuberbuhler as back-up.

Albion are being strongly linked with a move for Preston North End`s Carlo Nash who seems to be unhappy at Deepdale. The keeper has spoken out at the club`s lack of ambition in selling two of their more promising players and is looking for a move away from the club.

The keeper had a fantastic season with Preston last season and was hoping that the club would move on this season and push-on for another play-off place but he has been left disappointed by their lack of ambition.

Hull City goalkeeper Boaz Myhill and Liverpool`s Scott Carson have also been linked with Albion over recent weeks, both of whom are very promising young goalkeepers. At 23 Myhill is a quality young goalkeeper who would command a high fee from Hull, he would be my ideal candidate to replace Kuszczak should he leave.

Carson would only be able to sign on a season long loan, with Liverpool off-loading Chris Kirkland and offering Jerzy Dudek for transfer, Carson would be open to a recall back to Anfield should they need him to cover for first-choice Jose Reina. Carson also spent time on-loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season and they want him back for the season ahead.

Albion are waiting on Manchester United to make a move for Kuszczak as they have yet to open negotiations with chairman Jeremy Peace. Stories today linked Alex Ferguson with a move for AC Milan goalkeeper Dida as Milan look set to move for Gianluigi Buffon, but this all depends on whether Juventus are relegated.

Even if United move for another goalkeeper, Kuszczak has attracted interest from Arsenal and they would make a bid should United pull out of the race to sign the Polish international as cover for German World Cup hero Jens Lehmann.
