FIVE goals in four games were enough to earn West Bromwich Albion striker Kevin Phillips the accolade of Powerade Player of the Month in the Championship.

Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player-of-the-Month Awards panel, said: ‘To still be the Championship’s top scorer after spending more than a month on the sidelines through injury just shows what a tremendous season Kevin is having.

‘His back-to-back braces against Bristol City and Scunthorpe were a joy to watch.`

Despite a lengthy lay off with what he at first feared might be a career-threatening knee injury, Phillips exploded back on to the Championship scene to quickly re-establish himself as the Championship`s leading scorer.

With 15 goals in 15 starts for the Albion, Phillips was able to beat off the claims of other contenders for the award, Bradley Orr of Bristol City, Clinton Morrison (Crystal Palace) and Ricardo Fuller (Stoke City).
