So with it being Black Friday, West Brom’s official Twitter account decided to ask supporters which former or current player would they consider to be the club’s best ever ‘bargain’, and the answer was overwhelmingly former Northern Ireland captain Gareth McAuley.
The former Rangers defender joined West Brom in 2011 on a free transfer from Ipswich Town, and the centre-back would go on to have a storied career with the Baggies, making over 200 appearances and winning the club’s Player of the Year award in 2013, a season in which West Brom finished 8th in the Premier League.
Here’s what West Brom fans had to say on Twitter, with the majority of supporters making a case for McAuley for being the club’s best bargain player…
There’s a few but McAuley was just brilliant

McAuley only retired from football last year, yet his impact with West Brom is still something plenty of supporters still cherishes to this day
