Late yesterday evening West Bromwich Albion confirmed the signing of striker Brown Ideye.

He joins us from Dynamo Kiev for a new record transfer fee, and although the amount is undisclosed, it has to be in excess of £6million which was our existing record for Stephane Sessegnon.

The 25 year old has signed a three year deal at the club, and as ever, Albion hold a further 12 months in their favour, and a medical has now obviously been passed and personal terms agreed.

He is our fifth signing of the summer so far and has been handed the No 9 shirt.

So far in his career he has 182 appearances, and he’s scored 74 goals, and comes to us with international experience as well as Champions League experience.

Speaking to wba.co.uk as the signing was confirmed, new head coach Alan Irvine said of the capture.

‘Brown is a quality striker and I’m looking forward to working with him. He’s a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience.’

Ideye will join up with his new colleagues when they return from our pre season training camp in Sacramento.

Technical director Terry Burton commented.

‘When I arrived at Albion the recruitment department flagged Brown up as the man at the top of their wish list. It’s a fantastic signing because of the quality and the potential of the player. I can see that he really wants to be here and that he really wants to be playing in the Premier League.’
