“I support West Brom”: Controversial former player makes honest transfer admission

|

Saido Berahino has revealed that he still follows West Brom and would like to pull on an Albion shirt once again in the future.

The striker came through the ranks at The Hawthorns and enjoyed a terrific start to life in the first-team, which included a terrific 2014/15 campaign, where he managed a very impressive 14 goals in 32 games. However, that prompted serious interest from Tottenham and a long transfer saga played out, which appeared to impact the player.

Berhaino handed in a transfer request and his attitude was regularly questioned before he eventually moved to Stoke City in the January window of 2017. The criticism surrounding his professionalism continued with the Potters before he left last year, with the striker now playing in the Belgian top-flight for Zulte Waregem.

Would you ever take Saido Berahino back at the club?

Yes, if he apologised

Never

And, the 26-year-old has been reflecting on his career when speaking to the Counter Attack podcast, where he surprisingly admitted his desire to rejoin the Baggies in the future.

If West Brom came back in for me, I would jump back – 100 per cent. I support West Brom, I follow their games. My friend (Romaine Sawyers) plays for them. If they came back for me 100 per cent I would go back.”

In fairness to Berahino, he has done reasonably well at his current club, contributing six goals and three assists in 18 league games this season, although his long-term future is unclear as he is entering the final year of his deal with Zulte Waregem.

Despite his form, it’s hard to imagine Slaven Bilic wanting the player back at the club, especially with how well the team have performed this season. The Baggies are currently second in the Championship and hold a six-point cushion over third-placed Fulham in the race for automatic promotion.
