Game Too Far For Squad – Clarke

Steve Clarke had said the replay against QPR was a game too many for our injury hit squad, although it was our own fault we conceded from the set piece as we still could’ve taken a victory.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following the game and our exit from the FA Cup, Clarke said.

‘It’s disappointing. It’s a competition we wanted to stay in as long as possible. I think on the night we had the better chances, we went to sleep on a set play and you get punished for that at this level. The squad has been stretched in recent weeks and the boys that have gone in have done their best. Maybe the little bit of luck we were carrying a few weeks ago has deserted us a little bit, but all we can do is knuckle down and get on with it.’

Clarke said he knew there would be periods like this during the season when thigns didn’t go our way and injuries mounted up and what have you, but overall he was reasonably pleased with how we played the game and controlled it, but admitted we just didn’t have that spark to make something happen for us.
