It was only the other day that the Tongo Doumbie deal was said to be dead in the water, but apparently he favours a move to our neck of the woods.

The Rennes midfielder has apparently turned down Arsenal and is over in England today for a medical at the club after a fee was agreed.

Quoted on Sky Sports, he has apparently said.

‘I have no regrets about leaving Rennes, I go quietly and with a smile on my face, I have no grudges against the club. I felt a lot of desire from them (Albion), obviously it is less glamorous than Arsenal, but I will be able to continue my progress. The Premier League thrills me and I hope this is the beginning of a new adventure.’

Ok if he is genuinely talking about us, I’ll forgive the ‘less glamorous’ crack (even though impartial observers would agree, but isn’t it refreshing to hear a player showing he cares more about his chances of playing instead of the big money move and earning thousands for sitting on a bench.

Well I find it refreshing anyway.
