Simon Cox is delighted that he decided to shun a loan move and instead work his socks off in training to impress Roy Hodgson.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Cox described the season as a ‘rollercoaster’ ride and he’s delighted that his hard work and effort on the training pitch has reaped it’s reward.

‘The gaffer told me there had been a few clubs expressing an interest in taking me on loan and asked what I thought.’

Thankfully for Cox his Premiership dream was more important that simply getting Championship games under his belt, and he told Hodgson he’d wait for his chance.

‘I fancied just getting as many Premier League minutes as I can, I felt that would only set me in good stead for next season.’

Cox also adds that with the change in manager had he left it would’ve simply allowed Hodgson to cast his eye over somebody else and they could’ve impressed him instead, which he thought was a daft thing to do as he believes in his own ability.

‘It’s paid dividends for me, it gave me an opportunity to play and the gaffer believed what I was doing in training was good enough to warrant a starting place.’

So what’s next for Simon….goals!
