Roy Hodgson has said he hopes the Baggies can emulate Stoke and Fulham when it comes to Premiership survival.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said his plan was to survive this season and establish the Baggies as a Premiership team over the coming years with no more worries about yoyoing around the leagues.

Pointing to Fulham and Stoke, he admits it might lead to a few seasons of bottom half finishes, it will be a struggle and a scrap but once that base is in place, then the Baggies can push on and look to improve league placings season on season.

‘It’s a very important season, the team did well to bounce back after relegation but what this club needs now is a Fulham type situation where you get up, struggle for a couple of years, but then you start to build and become a stronger team. This year it’s vital it’s not up and down.’

I think most fans would take that to be honest. When we stay up we aren’t going to be challenging the top 6 next season, it’s far more realistic to look to improve on league placings by a place or two over the next few seasons. Steady and sustainable growth, to give us the chance to grow towards a top half team.
