In a bizarre twist it appears that Zoltan Gera will leave the Hawthorns. Not to play in the UEFA cup with FA Cup holders Portsmouth or fifth placed Everton, not to play in the Champions League with Scottish giants Celtic but to Fulham.

Reports in today’s Birmingham Evening Mail suggest that Gera will announce the deal next week when a management restructuring is completed at Fulham.

This news will surely disappoint Albion fans because Fulham are widely expected to be struggling at the bottom of the table again next year. It would be so much easier to take if the club where Gera eventually goes were a top six club or playing in Europe but Fulham.

Not that I mind Fulham but they are not the most ambitious choice for a player to make. It is very unlikely that Fulham will ever make it in to Europe and the fan base isn’t massive, (remember they have a dedicated area for neutral fans) so why should Gera choose them?

I am afraid the answer has to be money despite mutterings from Gera’s agent earlier in the season that he would only move to a top six club or top European club.

Zoltan you have made the wrong choice. As Baggies fans will know an unhappy Gera is worthless to the team and for his sake I hope that he is happy with the decision that he, or his advisers, have made.
