West Brom Reject Fresh Burnley Approach For Striker

|

The summer transfer window might be edging towards a close but West Bromwich Albion’s desire to keep striker Jay Rodriguez with us has not abated as it’s been reported today that we have knocked back a fresh approach from Burnley for the player.

With reports, as covered, earlier in the window suggesting that Sean Dyche wanted to do a double deal for Rodriguez and Craig Dawson and speculation hinting at initial offers of between £20-25million for both of them. It was no surprise to see stories saying we’d flatly rejected that, as simply put, even the upper figure is pathetic given the state of the current market.

News of their interest in Dawson has gone quiet but earlier today Sky Sports claimed that they ‘understood’ Burnley had come back for the striker with an offer believed to be in the region of £16million.

That’s certainly closer as a gambit for their former player given we reportedly paid Southampton £12million for his services, but still no dice until we’re into the region of £22million at least I would think if they want the club to even think about it from a financial perspective.

In fairness given the report states that Rodriguez moved from Burnley to West Brom I’m not sure how much faith we should put in this – but I’ve made worse errors of my own when typing without thinking!

With no clue presumably on what will eventually happen with Salomon Rondon and other players with a release clause still in operation, it’s understandable that we continue to play hardball on this one, especially as our valuation hasn’t been met, as we certainly don’t want to get caught short on deadline day if bids appear that we can’t reject.
