With speculation today linking Watford with West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore as previously covered, there was also another snippet as it related to our potential interest in Rangers’ right back James Tavernier.
The Guardian’s transfer ticker made the suggestion that 20-year-old Sam Field could be set for a switch and head out of the club to Rangers on a loan deal as a makeweight in the Tavernier transfer.
If both deals come off, and there’s no guarantee it’s anything more than speculation at this stage – we’ll soon know as there’s just under 30 minutes left until the permanent transfer deadline slams shut at 5pm – plenty took to social media to vent their frustration that we were leaving ourselves incredibly light in the midfield department.
Surely if we let field and Livermore go then we have replacements lined up we needed a Cam regardless if they stayed #wba

Loaning out Field makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

It's like Shane Long all over again…

So who would let Livermore go then go on loan ? #wba we have Barry to cover ????????

If rumours of a Livermore loan to Watford are true, we'd be better keeping Sam Field. Surely @wba can rustle up something nearer to Rangers asking price, with the impending departures of any of the following Chadli, Gibbs, Dawson, and Rodriguez

Seeing that Field possibly going to Rangers and Livermore to Watford ???? I mean we thought asking for a creative midfielder wasn’t too much but can we at least have a midfield left #wba #WBAFC #DeadlineDay

Livermore to Watford?!! Field to Rangers??! Looks like we’re going for no midfield for the coming season… not sure I fancy a CM of Brunt, Barry and Morrison for the whole season.” #WBA

More concerned about hearing of Field going out on loan than Livermore ???? Come on @WBA .. don’t ship out these players! Seasons gonna be long and hard, we need more depth if we are to do anything this year

We surely must have something lined up if we're happy to put Field out on loan – cannot go the season with Barry/Livermore/Brunt/Morrison as CM options ????. #wba

I would think Livermore is the more likely to go through if there’s any truth to the speculation, I can’t see Field going anywhere at this stage as it could be his year to break through properly and this season is as good as any to do that in the Championship.
I’m also not sure Rangers would be interested in taking on another midfielder this year given the options Steven Gerrard seems to have, and in terms of both coming off, I’m not seeing any real talk of a midfielder coming in being on the cards either.
