Roy Hodgson was absolutely thrilled come the final whistle yesterday, but he appreciates we certainly made hard work of it.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said he had to praise his players ‘never say die’ attitude as we secured a point thanks to Tchoyi’s hattrick, but the gaffer was very disappointed to see us go so far behind, so easily.

‘I thought we did our best to lose it! We certainly gave ourselves an uphill task with the two goals we conceded.’

Despite the disappointment of our defending, Hodgson does point to the balls cleared off the line and the chances we created as some recompense and to show it was an open game, but it’s little excuse really as our resurgence was based on physically not letting ourselves be opened up like we were by Newcastle.

That said, who cares at the moment, everybody has a bad day at the office, we’re no different – at least yesterday we didn’t let our heads drop and we battled like hell to get something from the game, so the positives should outweigh the negatives when everybody wakes up with a clear and sober head.
