Roy Hodgson has warned the players not to become complacent given Arsenal’s recent dip in form, because he knows they are more than capable of stepping up a gear if you allow them to.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said that if Arsenal had been successful against United in the Cup everybody would be saying they would be coming to the Hawthorns full of confidence, so the team need to be aware that a game or two hasn’t suddenly turned them into a bad side.

‘I think you just look at the quality of their team, the experience and the ability of the players and not even consider whether their past results are advantageous or not.’

Hodgson adds that whilst the cliches of wounded tiger, and low on confidence get thrown around when he watched them against United they hardly looked like a team incapable of getting the victory.

‘I wasn’t looking at a poor team that was lacking confidence or anything really. They asked a lot of questions of the United defence, by no means was it one way traffic.’

With the league title all that Arsenal have left to play for this season, Roy also points out that could count against us because they will be determined to take the 3 points, so we shouldn’t be expecting an easy ride or a preoccupied Arsenal to take to the field and even though our win earlier in the season will give the players a lot of confidence, this is a fresh match and we will have to be at our best again to ensure victory.

‘The players who played in that game will know they are capable of beating Arsenal. That’s a nice thing to have behind you but we start from scratch. The club did well at the Emirates and now we have to start again and do it all again at The Hawthorns.’
