Roy Hodgson has said he fully expects Dan Ashworth to begin contract talks now our safety is effectively secured following the Blackburn victory.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Hodgson said.
‘Now things are safer I dare say Dan Ashworth will make contact with the man I use as an advisor. I dare say he will start discussing what potentially will happen with regards to myself.’
As ever, the ongoing England speculation was also addressed.
‘The vacancy with England has nothing to do with me basically. I’m obliged to answer questions occasionally like any other Englishman who happens to be working in football, but it has got nothing to do with me as far as I know.’
The bit that will makes fans twitchy is when Hodgson adds.
‘Would I sign a contract here before the England situation is sorted? Why not. It wouldn’t matter. You could quite easily sign contracts and have clauses put in.’
Fair enough, all contracts thesedays contain clauses and it comes as no surprise that Hodgson would consider everything when committing to the club for a longer period, but it would be nice if the England toss could be sorted out and the speculation could cease.
