Report: West Brom’s chances of signing 21 y/o next season are ‘looking slim’

|

According to Birmingham Live, West Bromwich Albion’s chances of signing Grady Diangana next season are ‘looking slim’. The 21-year-old has impressed while on loan at the Hawthorns, but he’s unlikely to return – Diangana will go back to parent club West Ham United and may join their first-team next season.

Who has scored the most Championship goals?

Before the season was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Diangana made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and making six assists. He was a regular under Slaven Bilic before a hamstring injury saw him feature only twice in 2020.

As per WhoScored, the England U21 international has created 28 chances, completed 79.7% of his 531 passes, whipped in 30 crosses with 23.33%, won 15 aerial duels (37.5%), made 49 successful dribbles (54.4%), had 31 shots with 35.4% accuracy, blocked 23 passes/crosses/shots, won 30 free-kicks and made 23 tackles.

Diangana could see the season out for Albion if the pandemic can be slowed down for football to come back, but it’s unlikely he will return in 2020/21. Bilic has an impressive array of talent on the wing (Diangana, Callum Robinson, Matt Phillips, Kamil Grosicki) but will only be left with Phillips and Grosicki when the campaign comes to a close.

West Brom are currently second in the Championship with 70 points from 37 games and will be desperate to resume the season. The Baggies are six points clear of third-placed Fulham and have lost the fewest amount of games (5).

Albion are just one point adrift of leaders Leeds United and look on course for automatic promotion, so it would be a shame if their efforts went to waste.
