Report: West Brom in race to sign Europe-based striker with Premier League ambitions

|

West Brom are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson, a report from German outlet Kicker has claimed.

Andersson scored 12 goals in 33 league appearances to help keep Union in the Bundesliga this year following promotion last season, and it seems that has earned the striker plenty of interest from elsewhere.

According to the latest reports, West Brom, Newcastle and Leeds are all keen on a move for the striker, who is also attracting attention from Scottish champions Celtic, French outfit Lille and Union’s Bundesliga rivals Schalke.

One advantage that the Baggies could have over some of their rivals in this transfer battle however, is that Andersson is said to dream of playing in the Premier League, while it is claimed that the seven-figure release clause in his contract – which is reported to be 30% higher for English clubs – is set to expire next month.

It is thought that a decision will be taken on the future of the Swedish international in the next two weeks, and this could be one worth keeping an eye on for Baggies fans.

Would take Andersson at West Brom next season?

Yes

No

It seems pretty clear that the club are going to have to add a striker to their squad this summer, if they are to have any hope of avoiding an immediate relegation back to the Championship upon their return to the Premier League.

Having just helped Union Berlin to do exactly that, you would be confident that Andersson could make a similar contribution for West Brom next season were he to make the move to The Hawthorns.

Given his apparent desire to play in the Premier League as well, it seems this is a move Andersson could be open to, and you would hope they can get it done sooner rather than later, so that preparation can really start to begin for the new season.
